After
taking the interstate down the coast for most of the trip, we decided to take
a break and cruise down to Los Angeles on the Pacific Coast Highway through
Big Sur. Everyone in San Francisco told us that it was beautiful, but there
was no way to prepare ourselves for the really breathtaking ride. We started
by climbing up into the mountains, through a few miles of artichoke farms,
and then cruised down to the ocean by Monterey. After that, it was just miles
of rocky cliffs crashing down to sandy beaches. The best place we stopped was
a point where a waterfall fell off a 40-foot cliff down onto a sandy beach.
After being on the road for over a week, the idea of sleeping on the beach
and waking up to a shower underneath the waterfall sounded really nice to all
of us. Sadly, we had to press on to L.A.
