Home
to one of the country’s largest military bases, Virginia Beach was definitely
a change in both pace and scenery. With banners flying and a spot along the
pier, we faced the largely conservative population. Although the city placed
us far away from the crowds, we sent volunteers bearing clipboards into the
more populated areas. We snagged the attention of joggers, rollerbladers, and
cyclists as they whizzed by. Our most striking encounter was with three British
men whom we soon discovered were members of the British army. After they expressed
their disdain for the Bush Administration’s energy policy and gladly signed
our?ostcards, we wished them good luck on their next assignment. Any guesses
where that might be? Quote: "Our new assignment makes this place seem
like paradise…we’re headed to Iraq."
[Thanks to Glen Besa and Tyla Matteson for driving down to meet us\their energy
and organizing skills definitely made this event a success.]
